Hello!
We are El-Kretsen, Sweden's largest PRO (Producer Responsibility Organisation) with a nationwide collection and recycling system for electronics and batteries.
Producer
El-Kretsen is here to facilitate your producer responsibility.
Do you have producer responsibility?
Here you will find guidance on what applies to you.
Batterikretsen
Producer responsibility for batteries is managed by Batterikretsen – a subsidiary of El-Kretsen.

Producer responsibility organisation
We will help you take responsibility.
El-Kretsen is Sweden’s largest PRO (Producer Responsibility Organisation). As a producer affiliated with El-Kretsen, you are part of a nationally approved collection system for consumer electronics. This means that you can refer your end customers to us, our collection is from north to south in collaboration with all municipalities in the country.
Producer responsibility is one of the tools for achieving a circular economy. El-Kretsen’s vision is that all resources from electrical products and batteries are included in a cycle. Since the start in 2001, we have driven development to get there. That journey now continues with our customers, the producers, and where our greatest contribution is to quality-assured the handling of electrical products and batteries at the end of their life cycle.
Collection system
Nationwide collection system provides world-class recycling.
El-Kretsen is a nationally approved collection system that – through cooperation with all 290 municipalities in the country, approximately 15 transporters and 30 recycling facilities – has control over the entire recycling chain. This means that we can guarantee that electrical waste is handled in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner.
El-Kretsen’s collection service means that our specialized transporters collect electronic and battery waste from the municipalities’ collection points; from businesses; and from the nearly 5,000 battery bins that we are responsible for.
From the collection point, the material is transported to one of our recycling facilities. This is where the actual recycling takes place – when the material goes from being waste to raw materials by being unscrewed, sorted and shredded. The recyclers remove batteries and other environmentally hazardous components manually before finally sorting everything by type of material.
This is how we close the circle
Both in material recycling and reuse, it is important to find smart solutions that provide actual benefit in the end.
Since 2001, El-Kretsen has worked to recycle as much of the electrical waste and batteries that are collected as possible. In collaboration with our suppliers in pre-treatment (sorting, dismantling, fragmentation) and recycling, the techniques and possibilities have been gradually developed.
We collect the vast majority of consumer electrical waste and small batteries that arise in Sweden, and thus also have the chance to actually influence development and ensure that we recycle as much and clean material as possible as raw material.
Our recycling takes place in several stages of increasingly fine and careful sorting. At the pre-treaters, the collected material is decontaminated from hazardous waste. Damaged and hazardous products should not be reused, as this risks harming the user. The recyclers remove batteries and other environmentally hazardous components manually before finally sorting everything by type of material. The material goes from being waste to raw materials by being unscrewed, sorted and finely divided. Recycling metals saves up to 95 percent in energy compared to using freshly mined raw materials – and the great thing about metals is that they can be recycled as many times as you want.
